The atmosphere on This Morning turned decidedly chilly as a heated debate unfolded during the show’s latest episode.

Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were steering the ship on Thursday (June 27),

engaging with guests Ashley James and LBC’s Nick Ferrari on the day’s hot topics.

The conversation took a turn when the presenters probed their guests about celebrities dipping their toes into political debates.

The atmosphere on This Morning turned decidedly chilly as a heated debate unfolded during the show’s latest episode.

This was in light of Rishi Sunak’s comments branding David Tennant “the problem”

amidst a clash between MP Kemi Badenoch and the actor concerning women’s and trans rights. Both Ashley and Nick concurred that stars have every right to express their political views.

However, the dialogue became frosty when Ashley raised concerns about trans individuals’ safety being compromised by the government’s alleged engagement in “stoke culture wars”. Nick didn’t hold back his retort.

He challenged: “How does that improve the situation? How on earth does that by upping the ante…” Ashley cut in: “I completely agree with what you’re saying, however, I also think you have to be mindful”, reports the Mirror.

As tensions mounted in the studio, viewers at home didn’t hesitate to weigh in on the fiery discussion about celebrities voicing their political stances. One audience member expressed their frustration online, stating: “Why does Ashley James think it’s only their opinion that matters and us mere scum are not allowed to have one.”

Another slammed: “As a female I do not want someone as privileged, out of touch and rich as Trashley to speak on my behalf – she has no clue.”

Meanwhile, one more chimed in: “Did Cat Deeley just say should ‘we’ stay out of politics? Obviously loves calling herself a celeb lol.”

Hot on the heels of controversy, Doctor Who actor David snagged the prize for being a top “celebrity ally” at the recent British LGBT Awards. In his victory speech, David didn’t hold back, taking aim at Ms Badenoch amidst her proposals to restrict transgender women from using women’s lavatories.

In his award-acceptance moment, Mr Tennant declared: “It is human decency. We shouldn’t live in a world where that is worth remarking on. However, until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist any more I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up. Whilst we do live in this world, I am honoured to receive this.”
